Trees planted in Newtown Glen

Following the opening of the new path into Newtown Glen in Oct. some fifty trees were planted on 29th Nov. as a part of National Tree Planting week. The trees will enhance the path and provide more screening.

This project was the first to be led by the Five Parishes Path Group.

After a few words by the Chairman of the Five Parishes Path Group, Major General Gus Sinclair, Cllr Carolyn Riddell-Carre performed the official opening ceremony.

This work involved moving the path away from the Sewage Plant back closer to where it used to be some 40 years ago before the by-pass bridge and the Sewage Plant were built.

This new path will make it possible to follow St Cuthbert's Way through a woodland path without seeing the Sewage Plant and has been constructed so that it is easy for those with children's pushchairs and wheelchairs to use.

Music for the event was provided by the St Boswells Concert Band.
