SCARY STUFF AT NEWTOWN - A frightening time was had by all !!!

Yet again, the village excelled itself at halloween, by putting on their annual ghost walk. 237 men, women and children came along to join in the fun. Bowling Club Opening

It was a lovely afternoon and there was a good turn out for the club opening on Sunday and the first ' jack ' was rolled up by Anne Lockett the Club Presdent's wife, see photo A short game then took place with the usual difficulty of getting the bowls up to the long jacks !! Recycling of the Tops from Milk Containers Further to the recent note in the Church Magazine, contact has been made with the Doctor who is acting as the collection point for the cleaned red, green and blue tops. New Gas Main - £730 donation made to village

Great news is that Scotland Gas Networks, who have been laying the new gas pipe through the village during the past six months, have made a donation of £730 for purchase of childrens play equipment. This donation has been made as a token of thanks to the village for the disruption caused. The Community Council has in co-operation with SBC and the Rural Resource Centre been able to institute a free, weekly 'Shoppers Bus Service' for the area. Newtown Spring Clean !!

The token village clean up took place on Sunday and a small group of volunteers turn out and after about 1.5 hours they had collected some 22 bags of rubbish which was a great effort. A wide range of ages helped out and the Community Council will be awarding a small prize to the youngsters who took part. Glen Family Event report

After four dry days disappointedly the day started with rain but the Event continued and despite the weather was a great success. The Pipe Band from Galashiels arrived and were prepared to walk along a very muddy path to the event centre by the river and played marvellously whilst people studied Glen wildlife, water bugs, watch spinning demonstration and electro fishing etc. Several of the ... Trees planted in Newtown Glen

Following the opening of the new path into Newtown Glen in Oct. some fifty trees were planted on 29th Nov. as a part of National Tree Planting week.
